Iris Carter began her interest in herpetology as a child when she enjoyed catching tadpoles and growing them into frogs for release back into the dams. Her childhood interests included finding out about the local skinks, geckos and tortises and she was often out hunting in the bush around Mt Majura for a glimpse (or a hold).
Iris and her husband Dale Hughes own a bush block between Gundaroo and Collector and spend as much time as possible there watching and investigating the herp residents. Iris joined ACTHA to learn more about herps including conservation, habitat, and care of pet reptiles and very much enjoys the presentations given at the bi-monthly meetings.
