John was the CSIRO Collection manager, and remains an Honorary Fellow, of the CSIRO Australian National Wildlife Collection where he has been a leader in assembling this unique collection.
John has carried out extensive herpetological research both in the field and laboratory over many years, including the rediscovery of the Inland Taipan, the most venomous snake in the world.
John is an honorary member of both ACTHA and The Australian Society of Herpetologists. These unprecedented accolades recognise John's great contribution to the field of herpetology.
